This year-long course emphasizes writing skills useful in college and work after high school. The first semester includes time to write the senior culminating project. The second semester provides ample opportunities for students to prepare for their senior culminating project.
The goal of English 9 is to prepare students for academic and vocational life after high school and to help students become strong writers who understand and use the steps of the writing process. Not only will students become efficient within the writing process, but they will also understand and use different skills and strategies to read, allowing them to understand the meaning of what is read and evaluate their own progress to improve their reading. Emphasis will also be placed upon the student to use listening and observation skills to gain understanding through the use of communication strategies and skills to work cooperatively with others.
